Description

Over the last decade applying compost teas to crops has been proven to be effective at increasing crop health. The use of compost teas has reduced fertiliser and chemcial inputs. With all the advantages there are two major issues with compost teas, they are:

1/  Reliability of task specific microbe diversity and microbe count.
2/  Human and plant pathogen contamination.

ProTea™ solves these issues by providing reliable task specific microbe diversity and count with world class quality assurance while still keeping the benefits of compost tea.

Brewing Instructions:

1/  Clean inside brewer with a hose/Gerni™ then fill brewer with water (town chlorinated or tank water is fine) to the amount required. If water is suspected of being unclean eg dam water then add 50 ml of bleach (4% available chlorine marked on the label) per 100 litres of water and turn the brewer on for 1 hour to aerate before proceeding.

2/  Decide if you want a fungi dominated brew (generally tree crops or want more crop disease bio-balancing fungi like Trichoderma) or a bacteria dominated brew (all other crops or want more nitrogen fixing and phosphate solubilising microbes) and follow the instructions below:


Fungi Dominated Brew

Add 500 grams of Fungi Activator™ per 100 litres of water in the brewer. Wait until dissolved then add 50 grams of ProTea™ per 100 litres of water and brew for 18 to 24 hours between 20 to 30 °C.


Bacteria Dominated Brew

Add 500 grams of Bacteria Activator™ per 100 litres of water in the brewer. Wait until dissolved then add 50 grams of ProTea™ per 100 litres of water and brew for 18 to 24 hours between 30 to 35 °C.

Brewing Notes: 

•  The brew is stable for up to two weeks without additional aeration.
•  Brews may require longer brewing times in cooler conditions than the above temperatures but optimum microbe counts will be achieved when the brew starts to froth. Monitor the brew regularly and discontinue brewing when heavy frothing is observed.

No Brewing Equipment or Bacteria Activator™ / Fungi Activator™ Alternative Preparation Method:

•  Mix 1 kg of ProTea™ per 10 litres of warm water and let it stand for 24 hours with occasional stirring. Place in a warm area if possible so around 25 °C.
•  After 24 hours every 10 litres can be diluted with another 90 litres of water. Follow the rates below.

Maintain coverage of seed. Increase water rate if necessary. Sow within 12 hours.

 

•  Use the same rates as above if foliar prefered over fertigation.
•  The rates in grams above require no brewing just use the straight ProTea™ powder.
•  
Generally reapply every 4 to 8 weeks in the growing season. Increase the frequency if undesirables are detected or entering incubation weather conditions.


Field Application Notes:

•  The brew should be added to the tank last after all other inputs have been diluted.
•  Foliar spray early morning or late afternoon in the cool of the day with a Delta T between 2 and 8 (Delta T is used as an indicator for the best possible spraying conditions. More at http://www.bom.gov.au/info/leaflets/Pesticide-Spraying.pdf;). If unsure of Delta T don’t apply in hot or windy conditions. Apply to point of run off for best results. Use medium to coarse nozzles.
•  Do not apply below 5 °C.
•  Apply at your normal water rates per hectare.
•  ProTea™ is not compatible with biocidal chemicals. Do not mix with fungicides / bactericides or toxic chemicals as contains live organisms.
•  Spray tanks and equipment in contact with microbes must be clean to prevent the proliferation of contaminants.
•  Brew may need filtered to prevent equipment blockages. We recommend a 100 micron bag when decanting from brewer to spray or injection tank.
•  Use clean non-chlorinated water for best results.


Product Analysis:

Contains specifically selected strains of the following:

Azotobacter vinelandii, Azospirillum lipoferum, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus subtilis, Bradyrhizobium japonicum, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Rhizobium leguminosarum, Streptomyces cellulosae and Trichoderma harzianum. Total 1 billion CFU per gram at time of packing.


Storage and Handling:

•  While handling, brewing and applying microbial products protective clothing, gloves and face masks should be worn.
•  Wash your hands after using the product.
•  Avoid aerosols generated by brewing aeration.
•  All microbes may cause dangerous lung infections in immuno-compromised persons (e.g. those undergoing chemotherapy).
•  Microbes may exude toxic compounds during the brewing process.
•  Store in cool, dry place ideally between 4 °C and 10 °C out of direct sunlight.  Storage in the fridge is preferred but not in the freezer. DO NOT FREEZE
•  Use as soon as possible after opening but if this cannot be achieved then refrigerate remainder immediately after use and use within 3 months. Contamination of contents may occur at any time after opening and BioStim takes no responsibility for opened product not used immediately.
