What is being converted?
- Litres per 1000 square meters (L/1000 m²): This means how many litres of water (or any liquid) you use on an area of 1000 square meters.
- Gallons per 1000 square feet (gal/1000 ft²): This means how many gallons you use on an area of 1000 square feet.
Why convert?
Sometimes equipment or guidelines use different units. You might get instructions in litres per 1000 m² but your local system or measuring tools use gallons per 1000 ft². So, converting helps you understand and apply the right amount.
Step 1: Understand the unit conversions
-
Area conversion:
1 square meter (m²) = 10.7639 square feet (ft²)
So, 1000 m² = 1000 × 10.7639 = 10,763.9 ft² -
Volume conversion:
1 litre = 0.264172 gallons
Step 2: Set up the conversion
You have X litres per 1000 m², and you want to find Y gallons per 1000 ft².
-
Convert litres to gallons:
X litres×0.264172=gallons -
Convert area from 1000 m² to ft²:
1000 m²=10,763.9 ft2 -
Since you want gallons per 1000 ft², scale down the volume proportionally:
The amount per 1000 ft² will be less because 1000 ft² is smaller than 10,763.9 ft².
Step 3: Formula
Y=X×0.264172×1000/10,763.9Where:
- X = litres per 1000 m²
- Y = gallons per 1000 ft²
Example:
If you have 50 litres per 1000 m², then:
Y=50×0.264172×1000/10,763.9≈50×0.264172×0.0929≈1.23 gallons per 1000 ft²Summary
- Multiply litres by 0.264172 to get gallons.
- Multiply by (1000 ÷ 10,763.9) to adjust for the area difference.
- This gives you gallons per 1000 square feet.
