Percent (%) to Grams per Kilogram (g/kg) Calculator Explanation
-
Percent (%) means:
“How many parts out of 100.” For example, 5% means 5 parts out of 100 parts. -
Grams per kilogram (g/kg) means:
“How many grams are in one kilogram.” Since 1 kilogram = 1000 grams, grams per kilogram tells you the amount in grams for every 1000 grams (or 1 kg).
How to convert from % to g/kg:
- Step 1: Understand that 1% means 1 part in 100 parts.
- Step 2: Since 1 kilogram = 1000 grams, you multiply the percentage by 10 to get grams per kilogram.
Example:
If you have 3% of nitrogen in soil, then:
3%×10=30 g/kg
This means there are 30 grams of nitrogen in every 1 kilogram of soil.
Why is this useful?
Farmers often use g/kg to measure nutrients or substances in soil or fertilizers because it gives a clear idea of how much in weight is present in a fixed amount (1 kg).
