Convert PPM to Grams per Litre

What is PPM?

  • PPM means Parts Per Million.
  • It tells you how many parts of a substance are in one million parts of the solution.
  • For example, 1 PPM means 1 part of substance in 1,000,000 parts of water.

What is Grams per Litre (g/L)?

  • Grams per litre means how many grams of a substance are present in one litre of solution.
  • Since 1 litre of water weighs about 1000 grams, grams per litre and PPM are closely related.

How to Convert PPM to Grams per Litre?

  • 1 PPM = 1 milligram per litre (mg/L)
  • Since 1000 milligrams = 1 gram,
    1 PPM = 0.001 grams per litre (g/L)

Formula

grams per litre (g/L)=PPM/1000

Example

If your fertilizer solution has 500 PPM of nitrogen:

grams per litre=500/1000=0.5 g/L

So, there are 0.5 grams of nitrogen in every litre of your solution.

This helps you measure and mix fertilizers or chemicals accurately for your farm. If you know the PPM, you can find out exactly how many grams per litre you have or need.
